Dream APs?

 By: dxboon : September 13th, 2012-21:39
Let's talk about our dream APs. While I love my 15300 to death, and am super satisfied with it, that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to own other APs! If money were no object, which AP would you choose to add to your collection? It's so hard for me to narrow...

You have to narrow it down to ONE only, Vlad!

 By: dxboon : September 13th, 2012-21:44
Don't be too greedy, mon frère ! I would love an RO with starwheel display... Now you are putting ideas in my head, most evil one! *grumble* Daos

I am always putting ideas ( bad, preferrably ) in Senoritas's head ). ;)

 By: amanico : September 13th, 2012-21:48
In this case, RO Skeleton QP, for me. Come on, sister, Greediness is a constitutional right. so I add the Starwheel, too! Et voilà. ;) Kisses in the neck. Vlad.

You French are incorrigible! Mon Dieu! :-)

 By: dxboon : September 13th, 2012-22:03
RO Skeleton QP is very nice. I was not fully convinced by pictures, but in person -- WOW! The question is steel or platinum, really! I prefer the white metals over the yellow or rose gold for this model. xoxoxo, Daos

Steel AND platinum. ;) [nt]

If money was no object

Then the Royal Oak Grand Complication

A blue dialed Grande Complication would be...

 By: dxboon : September 13th, 2012-22:08
...the BOMB! :-) I cannot even imagine having a watch with a chrono, perpetual calendar, and repeater all-in-one. :-) The only misgiving I have about this piece, and it's understandable from a design perspective, is the size (44mm, I believe). For me, the...

On me 39mm just looks wrong. However the deal breaker would be the 500,000 price tag

 By: nautilus : September 15th, 2012-00:02
Even my wife thinks that I need a bigger watch if I try on anything less than 40mm. The old Royal Oak was just too small for me but this years new model size looks good on me. It's a shame as there are some smaller watches that I really like.

I suspect the price tag...

 By: dxboon : September 15th, 2012-16:59
...is a deal breaker for a lot of folks! LOL! :-) Cheers, Daos

One wet dream :)

Ref 25770 Cheers Damjan

You're a tough guy, Damjan!

 By: dxboon : September 14th, 2012-07:29
You and Ah-nold could be twins with that watch! :-) LOL! I agree that it is one of the most striking ROOs ever made. Cheers, Daos

That's why

I need to wear pink sweater :) Best D

LOL! [nt]

Certainly one of the stars...

 By: dxboon : September 14th, 2012-21:58
...of the Jules Audemars collection. I really like the movement design. The question for me would be sapphire or silvered dial... Cheers, Daos

I know! Some days...

 By: dxboon : September 15th, 2012-17:02
...I think the solid dial is better. Then of course, there are days when I want to see all the little parts on both sides of the movement. Luckily (or unluckily) for me, my wallet precludes my need to make this decision at any point in the foreseeable fut...

Jules Audemars Grand Sonnerie Carillon with the Dynamograph...

 By: patrick_y : September 14th, 2012-11:25
That's my favorite and I'd wear it daily. Preferably during long nights at the office when one loses track of time and is reminded by the chimes. Assuming I don't dislike having to wind it.

A very elegant choice, Patrick!

 By: dxboon : September 14th, 2012-21:45
A true gentleman's timepiece. :-) Cheers, Daos

The new 15400ST with the black dial...

 By: jimly : September 14th, 2012-14:50
...I like the logo separate from the 12 mark and since I don't have an AP yet, I think a beautiful RO is the right way to start.

If I could only have one AP...

 By: dxboon : September 14th, 2012-21:39
...it would be a Royal Oak. It's an icon of both watchmaking and design. Good choice! Cheers, Daos

RO Equation of Time set to Paris time, steel version

 By: Artoxares : September 15th, 2012-00:02
Difficult to reach perfection but that one is really not far from it :-) Maybe one day... All the best, Nicolas

One of the more interesting EOT watches IMO.

 By: dxboon : September 15th, 2012-17:10
The case says elegant sportiness, but the EOT complication is generally found on more classical dressy watches. :-) I like the push-pull effect of that. Cheers, Daos

Color me surprised.

 By: dxboon : September 15th, 2012-17:15
I thought for sure you'd choose something a little sportier. :-) This is a beautiful watch, and I've always loved the ad campaign that AP has done for it. :-) Cheers, Daos

JUST ONE.

 By: JerryW : September 15th, 2012-20:41
Are you serious Daos. Now I need to think for a while, maybe sleep on it. Will post my selection soon. Best, JerryW

It's a tough question, isn't it?

 By: dxboon : September 15th, 2012-21:43
I know, Jerry. It's hard. I have long lusted after the Edward Piguet rock crystal tourbillon, and the Jules Audemars with AP Escapement, but I think my choice would ultimately get the most wrist time of the three. I don't know...some days I flip-flop back...

I The one in the middle. ...

This was one of my favorites...

 By: dxboon : September 16th, 2012-11:41
...from the recent collection. It's got this sort of macho/technical feel to it, but the case adds refinement. It's a beauty, and I definitely see the appeal. Another grail AP, for sure. Cheers, Daos

Hubba hubba! Now we're talking!

 By: dxboon : September 16th, 2012-11:51
You always have the best photos, TM! I like the delicate engraving on the bridges of this watch very much. I hope to see you soon! :-) Cheers, Daos

Ming? Is that you? LOL!

 By: dxboon : September 16th, 2012-11:48
Great picture, TM! DRMW would enjoy your juxtaposition of the H&K with the AP. :-) Cheers, Daos

My kind of photo.

 By: MichaelC : September 16th, 2012-19:46
Awesome TM, awesome.

Nice.

 By: dxboon : September 16th, 2012-11:36
Which version is your favorite? Cheers, Daos

Shows my lack of knowledge....

 By: CGJ0 : September 16th, 2012-11:41
There are different versions?! I did not appreciate this at all! Clearly I need to do some research...

I like the Ginza 7 in forged carbon.

 By: dxboon : September 16th, 2012-11:46
You know what...it's not a lack of knowledge. I learn things everyday on this site. :-) Just take it all in and enjoy! :-) Cheers, Daos

Yes yes

 By: CGJ0 : September 16th, 2012-12:05
The one in Carbon is the one I like! I also love the "playboy" ROO chrono in rose gold with rubber strap.

Cool!

 By: dxboon : September 16th, 2012-14:03
:-) All fun choices! My favorite ROOs currently are the Orchard Road, Blue Jeans (this is a lady's model), and Jarno Trulli. Cheers, Daos

Tourbillon Chronograph ROO for me

With the new carbon case and contrast inner white chrono dial, with tourbillon it is my deaming AP until now.

You never know.

 By: dxboon : September 16th, 2012-14:18
If you can dream it, you can do it! This is the one that was launched at SIHH 2011, right? I like that one better than the 2012 rose gold/forged carbon tourbillon chrono. :-) I hope your dreams come true! Cheers, Daos

This question is easy for me.

Titanium cased Millenary Minute Repeater w/ AP escapement... ...

Yeah...

 By: dxboon : September 18th, 2012-07:27
...this is a pretty sweet piece. I love that AP does fantastic traditional finishing and construction, but is also at the cutting edge of materials and design. Your selection is a great example of AP turning the "ordinary" (if one can even imagine a minut...

I think I have mine....

 By: Andy : September 18th, 2012-12:17
We all dream of something unobtainable but to me the dream was an openwork skeleton from AP who excel in skeletons. So to me my 15305 is my dream piece which I can play with every day :) Great thread, Andy.

One of my favorite watches...

 By: dxboon : September 19th, 2012-07:12
...across all brands in recent years is the 15305. It's a spectacular watch, and you are very fortunate to own one! Dreams do come true! Congrats! Cheers, Daos

My 2 babies.....

finally got around to adding a pic - not that you don't know what either look like..!! :) Andy. ...

What could be better?

 By: dxboon : September 20th, 2012-07:34
Your two treasures in one photo! Cheers, Daos

That's easy.

 By: ralph_george : September 18th, 2012-14:20
I'll take any AP that has "Jules" in the name. Odds say it will be a well executed dress watch with class. Unless the dream is a nightmare. Then it would be some type of Royal Oak, especially an inane limited edition done in garish colors and named after ...

You mean like this one? :-)

 By: dxboon : September 19th, 2012-07:10
LOL! Sorry, but couldn't resist. I actually think the Montauk Highway makes for a fun, festive summertime watch. I enjoyed reviewing it a while back, and of all the watches I've reviewed, the general non-collecting public seemed to gravitate to this one t...

Bingo - that's the one.

 By: ralph_george : September 19th, 2012-09:15
Robin's egg highlights? Never understood that watch, nor some of the other LE ROO's. I'll wait for the Cross Bronx or Schuylkill Expressway editions - offered in pollution brown with white stripes & asphalt black with yellow stripes.

This has been a difficult decision

 By: JerryW : September 19th, 2012-20:02
I think I failed. For years I have said the the 15202 is the perfect AP and if I had to choose a dream AP it would have to be included, although I have two dream AP's. (sorry Daos) Something about the simplicity and something about the simple complexity. ...

Jerry! You and Nicolas are greedy!

 By: dxboon : September 20th, 2012-07:32
One model only! LOL! Okay, I forgive you! They are fantastic choices and I know many, many people would consider it a dream to own either watch, but especially the one in the second picture! :-) Talk about understated elegance hiding something extraordina...

Daos, you are much to kind. (your title reply)

 By: JerryW : September 20th, 2012-13:58
I admit that I am hooked on AP and I was very lucky to stumble upon several years ago. Best, JerryW

A great choice, and I'm sure many would agree with you! :-) It's a beautiful watch! Cheers, Daos
